United Methodist Women (UMW)
Abernethy’s UMW consists of three “circles”, each of which meet monthly on different days and times:
Friendship Circle – meets the first Tuesday of each month, 6:30 pm, at Zander’s Coffee House in downtown Newton.
New Life Circle – meets the first Tuesday of each month, 1 pm, at the church.
Willing Workers – meets the first Wednesday of each month, 10 am, at the church.
The UMW also holds several combined meetings each year, and sponsor several fundraising activities with funds going towards mission efforts in our local church and community. UMW provides annual donations to ECCCM, the Corner Table of Newton, and the Methodist Children’s Home.
Queen Bees of Abernethy UMC
The Queen Bees is a women’s prayer ministry who work together to cover the community and world with prayer. The Bees make several types of prayer items, including crocheted prayer shawls and lap blankets, fleece blankets, quilts, knit prayer cloths, and pocket sized “prayer squares”. These items are provided without cost and upon request to people who are in need of prayer and healing. Recently, 50 pocket sized “prayer squares” were sent to a military unit serving in Afghanistan. Classes are available for anyone who wants to learn to knit or crochet. Please see the calendar for events and information. Prayer requests and requests for items can be sent to email@example.com
